A Different Kind of Case Study
Lessons from Other Fields
What we already know how to do — in finance, aviation, medicine, and beyond — and what it implies for how we verify the vote.
This collection is the companion to our case studies, and it does the opposite intellectual work. The case studies document, in concrete detail, what has gone wrong in American vote reporting across more than a century and a half. These pages document what we have, across that same span, gotten right — in other domains, often of comparable or higher stakes, where society has built working architectures of verification, transparency, and independent review. The case studies show the gap. This collection shows the standard the gap is being measured against.
Think of these as a different kind of case study. Each one takes a field where serious verification architecture already exists — independent certification, redundant checks, public investigation of failures, structural reform when something breaks — describes that architecture in enough detail that you feel its weight, and then asks a single question: if we demand all of this for aviation, finance, surgery, and nuclear power, on what grounds do we demand so much less of the step that turns precinct vote counts into the official totals that govern hundreds of millions of people? We do not answer the question here. We pose it as sharply as the comparison allows, and leave the answer to you.
The argument is cumulative. No single field is meant to be decisive. What the collection demonstrates, domain after domain, is that the verification standard Actual Vote asks for is not novel, not extreme, and not technically difficult. It is the standard we already apply wherever we have decided the stakes warrant it. These domains are also, like Actual Vote itself, non-partisan by construction: everyone flies on certified aircraft, takes FDA-reviewed drugs, and relies on audited financial markets, regardless of party, and the architectures that protect them do not care who benefits.

Every public company has its books examined by an independent auditor, certified by its CEO under criminal penalty, and disclosed in a public database anyone can search — yet we accept election totals that pass through the reporting chain with no equivalent independent check.
